Introduction to
Buddhism Class
The Yoga of Universal Compassion
Following last summer’s program on the Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness, we will dive into the Mahayana view and practice of emptiness and universal compassion. The focus will be on the Yogācāra tradition, and specifically the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra. We will explore concepts such as the ālayavijñāna (base consciousness), the three natures, the three bodies of Buddhahood, and how these relate with the cultivation of universal compassion. Special attention will be given to the influence of Yogācāra on the awareness traditions of Mahāmudrā and Dzogchen.
The class will serve as an ongoing “Introduction to Buddhism” and drop-ins are welcome.
Wednesdays 6:30-8pm Eastern at Lotus Light Contemplative Community Center, Knoxville TN.
