Every month, Milarepa Dzong offers a full Gya Chö, which includes 100 butter lamps and 100 saffron water Bowls. When sponsoring these offerings, it is customary to provide a prayer request that will be read during the ceremony. Gya Chö, or “An offering of one hundred” is a traditional method for the accumulation of merit, the purification of sickness, pain, and distress. In the Buddhist tradition, butter lamps symbolize the clarity of wisdom, and this offering of light creates harmony and brings joy to the mind, and in particular promotes success, prosperity, longevity, and internal and environmental balance and peace. When offered on behalf of the deceased, prayers are recited for their liberation in the Bardo. Aspiring to follow the example of Lama Norlha Rinpoche’s teacher, Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche who offered 100 butter lamps each night, MOCD completes this ceremony once every month typically on a Saturday or Sunday morning. The offering is accompanied by the chanting of prayers of auspiciousness and sealed with aspiration and dedication prayers in English and Tibetan.

Join us for the service at Milarepa Dzong in Happy Valley 1-2:30 pm or sponsor the offering of butterlamps for your particular prayer requests. For more information contact mocd@mocd.org.
